Do I qualify for the home office deduction if I also rent a coworking desk?

Answer

The home office deduction requires that part of your home be used regularly and exclusively as your principal place of business, or as a place to meet clients. Renting a coworking desk does not automatically disqualify you, but it can weaken the 'principal place of business' claim if that is where you do most of your substantive work. If your home is where you handle management and administrative tasks and you have no other fixed location for those, you may still qualify even while using coworking space for meetings. The coworking rent itself is separately deductible as a business expense. The real test is whether the home space is truly exclusive and central to the business.
