Can I collect Social Security on my ex-spouse's record after a divorce?

Answer

Yes, if your marriage lasted at least 10 years, you are currently unmarried, and you are at least 62. You can claim a divorced-spouse benefit worth up to 50% of your ex's PIA, and your ex does not need to have filed yet (only that they are eligible and you have been divorced at least two years). Claiming on your ex's record does not reduce their benefit or affect their current spouse at all — and they are never notified. You still receive the higher of your own benefit or the divorced-spouse amount, not both. If your ex dies, you may qualify for a divorced survivor benefit of up to 100%, and remarrying after age 60 does not disqualify you from that survivor benefit.
